How do I get a unique piece of Rachael’s Art for myself?

If you want a piece of art that is one of a kind, whether it be to commemorate a loved one or that special four legged friend, Rachael wants to work with you to make that a reality.

Below you will find all the information you will need to know how to begin that process.

Pricing

Thank you for considering commissioning artwork from Rachael.

The table below gives the starting price point for each category. Head and shoulder portraits of a single subject with minimal or no background will usually be charged at these prices. There may be occasions where, due to the specifics of what has been requested or the quality of the reference image, the work undertaken will be more complex and this will be reflected in the price quoted. If you are looking for a whole body portrait, a more detailed background, or multiple subjects in one piece, this will increase the cost. When you make contact and Rachael has a better idea of exactly what you are seeking she will give you a firm quote for your commission.

A4 A3 A2
Graphite Animal £80 £130 -
Human £140 £190 -
Pastel Animal £130 £180 £230
Human £190 £240 -

These prices are exclusive of postage costs. You are welcome to arrange with Rachael to collect your artwork once it has been completed. If you require your commissioned piece to be posted to you this will be added to the overall price. Artworks will be sent via Royal Mail tracked, insured and to be signed for and the cost of this service is dependant on size.

Once you have decided to commission Rachael and a price has been agreed, your place is booked in Rachael’s commission book upon receipt of a 50% non-refundable deposit. The final 50%, plus any postage costs, are to be paid upon completion of work and prior to delivery/collection.

The commission process

The process begins with you emailing Rachael with the details of what you desire for your commissioned piece. This should include the medium you would like and the size. If the piece will be a gift and you have a specific date by which you would require the piece to be completed, please let Rachael know at this stage so she can advise you as to whether this will be possible. At this stage please also include the reference photo you wish to be used as the primary reference source, and additionally any other photos of the subject that you think will help Rachael to capture the likeness and personality of the subject. The more photos you are able to provide the better. Advice on taking good quality reference photos can be found here.

Rachael will respond to your email with details of what she is able to offer, including the specific price and an estimated timescale. Discussions may also need to take place at this stage so that Rachael has a really good idea of what you are looking for and can be sure to craft a piece of artwork that you are truly thrilled with.

Once all discussions have taken place and a plan finalised you will pay the 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your place in Rachael’s commission book. Rachael will confirm by email how to pay this. Payment of 50% deposit reflects acceptance by the client of commission terms and conditions, which can be viewed here.

Rachael will begin work on your commission! If you wish, Rachael can update you on progress and will seek to ensure as she is going along that you are happy with the piece.

On completion Rachael will photograph the finished work and email it to you, to ensure you are happy with the artwork. If you desire any alterations or tweaks (in line with what was initially agreed) please speak to Rachael at this stage so she can make any final alterations. Your custom is highly valued and we want you to be very happy with the piece you receive.

Once you are happy with the final piece Rachael will mount the artwork and prepare it for transit.

The remainder of the balance is payable prior to artwork being delivered/collected.

Once full payment has been received your artwork will be either posted to you or available for collection at a mutually agreed upon time (whichever was agreed upon at the outset).

Caring for your art

I want you to be able to enjoy your work of art for many years to come and therefore I have put together some information and advice on how to best look after, preserve and protect your piece:

Your artwork will be dispatched to you covered with a glassine sheet. This is to protect the artwork from smudging or contamination if touched. Please keep this sheet covering your artwork until it is framed. If you touch the artwork there is a risk of smudging, or of natural skin oils transferring from your fingers onto the piece.

I advise that your artwork is framed behind glass to offer it maximum protection. The card mount ensures there is an air gap between the artwork and the glass, preventing the framing glass and the artwork from having direct contact. Contact between the two will significantly reduce the lifespan of the artwork. Therefore, when you have your piece framed please ensure that either this mount remains in place, or it is replaced with another (for example if you want a different colour or style).

I strongly advise that, wherever you decide to display your framed piece of artwork, it is not displayed in direct sunlight. Even behind glass regular exposure to direct sunlight can cause colours to fade.

If you have any other questions regarding how to best look after your artwork please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We want to keep your art unique…

We want a future where artists can continue to be able to create.

Unfortunately not everyone feels this way, so we need to take steps to protect art, artists, and the creative process. To make sure our studio is sustainable we have a few terms and conditions below.

Terms and conditions:

The following terms and conditions apply to all commissioned artwork. Please read them carefully to ensure you can fully accept them. It is not necessary for the client to sign in agreement, as provision of a 50% deposit will be taken as confirmation of acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Price quotations will be provided via email by the artist Rachael Clark and are then valid for a period of 30 days. After this 30 day period has expired, if the deposit of 50% has not been paid, Rachael Clark is under no obligation to honour the quotation.

The client is responsible for providing suitable reference photos from which the artwork will be produced. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that they have the proper permission to use any photographs and do not breach copyright laws.

The artist Rachael Clark reserves the right to refuse any commission request should she deem it not possible to complete the work to the standards she expects, for example if the quality of the reference photo is inadequate.

Rachael Clark will provide the client with an estimated start date and estimated completion date. These are estimates only and whilst the artist will try to ensure she works within this timescale the artist will not be held responsible for any delays to the completion of work. Rachael will communicate with the client if the estimated time frame cannot not be met, along with a new estimate for completion. If the client requires the artwork to be completed by a specific date, for example if it to be given as a gift, please communicate this in writing at the outset, before the deposit is paid.

The artist Rachael Clark reserves the right to share photos of work in progress to social media. If the client does not wish photos to be shared, for example if the artwork is to be a surprise gift, this must be communicated in writing prior to the commission being placed and payment of the deposit.

If the client chooses to terminate the services of Rachael Clark before the commission project is complete, Rachael Clark reserves the right to retain the deposit paid, and any artwork produced from the client’s reference photo will remain the property of Rachael Clark.

On completion of the commissioned artwork a watermarked photo will be sent to the client for their review. At this stage the client has the opportunity to request minor alterations.

The full balance is payable prior to collection or delivery of the commissioned artwork. Artwork will not be released to the client until the full balance has been paid. Once the full balance has been paid this signifies the client’s acceptance of the finished piece, and after this no further alterations will be made. As commissioned pieces of artwork are personal to the individual placing the commission, no refunds will be given once the final balance has been paid.

If commissioned artwork is to be posted, it will be sent by Royal Mail tracked and insured, at the client’s expense. In the unlikely event the artwork is damaged during delivery and arrives with the client in an unacceptable state, the client must provide photographs to the artist Rachael Clark, in order that she can place an insurance claim with Royal Mail. The client will receive compensation once the claim is settled with Royal Mail.

The artist Rachael Clark retains the copyright to the artwork created from the client’s reference photo. The client owns the original commissioned piece of artwork but is not permitted to make any reproductions of the artwork.

Rachael Clark reserves the right to use images of commissioned pieces of artwork for marketing and publicity purposes, including on the artist’s website and on social media.
