Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet! My name is Rachael, and I’m an artist specialising in painting and drawing portraits. I live in Halifax with my husband Doug, our 6 children and a menagerie of animals including two crazy labradoodles called Sully and Zoe. Whilst portraits are my speciality I also enjoy painting landscapes, seascapes, forests and trees, and really anything in nature. I enjoy exploring a variety of mediums including acrylics and watercolours, as well as pastels. Living in the heart of the Pennines and only a stone’s throw from the incredible Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by my family, I am never lacking in inspiration for my art.
I am constantly overwhelmed by the amazing world God has made, and marvel at the intricacies and beauty of his magnificent creation. This inspires me to draw and paint. I would describe my artistic style as ‘realism with expression and feeling’. But don’t take my word for it - have a look at my gallery of work and see for yourself.
Apart from a GCSE in art (many years ago!) and informal help and guidance from fellow artists along the way, I am self taught, and continue to learn and grow as an artist every day. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and art has always been my ‘happy place’; a place of quiet and calm where I can focus my mind.
